Our Principal

Our Principal

I am Principal Raenette "Rae" Sasaki Wood. This is my 33rd year in education and my 17th year in Oak Harbor Public Schools. As an experienced math/business teacher, guidance/crisis counselor, and school administrator, it is my endeavor to support our staff, students, and families in experiencing a strong passion for learning as a way of life. I am originally from Hawaii and I have a big heart for inclusivity for our children. I believe we should celebrate and embrace diversity so that our actions go beyond a simple appreciation for cultures; rather, we need to learn from one another as we work in unity to help children grow into productive, healthy citizens. Therein lies my firm belief that every child has a voice and every child can learn strong leadership skills to contribute in positive ways to our OHI learning community. Nelson Mandela said, "Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future. Those who abuse them tear at the fabric of our society and weaken our nation." Our job is to protect our children, to keep them safe, to help them grow with love, and to help them shine.

We practice a Culture of Greatness with a Growth Mindset where our teachers and support staff strive to nurture each student’s well-being, stimulate their curiosity and creativity to reach new heights, and help them build strong connections within our Panther Family. With the global pandemic, we are asked to answer a higher call to ensure that every child's social-emotional well-being continues to grow in healthy ways so that their resilience will see them through these very challenging times. This resiliency is what will strengthen each child's ability to continue to learn and to find personal everyday successes. Last but not least, we depend on you and our Oak Harbor community to optimize learning opportunities for our children. As such your OHI PTA membership is one of the most important steps you can take to contribute to the success of our children. Please visit our webpage to learn more about PTA. On our website, you'll find many useful resources and it is the best way to stay on top of news and updates.

School Levy

Thankfully, our Oak Harbor community continues to support our school levy which helps to fund a variety of programs and services. For instance--thanks to the levy--our art program students earn local, state, and national awards or recognition. Our PE program teaches our students about lifelong physical and mental health. Our band program grows young musicians who have, in the past, received many local competition awards. Moreover, we are able to provide every student with basic supplies and technology for learning. And, we have hot and cold meals for breakfast and lunch. These are only some of the benefits our children enjoy because of your ongoing support of the levy. Thank YOU!

On behalf of our Panther Family, welcome to School Year 2024-2025. YOU play an integral role in the life of your child and we want you to be a huge part of our Panther Family.

Mahalo and Aloha,
Rae Wood
