We'll be discussing important policies and initiatives to support the health and well-being of our students and staff. In the context of the federal nutrition program requirements, the wellness committee plays a crucial role in developing and implementing school wellness policies that promote healthy eating and physical activity. These policies may include things like offering nutritious meals and snacks, providing opportunities for physical activity, and creating a supportive environment for healthy behaviors.

Your input is valuable! We encourage all interested parents, staff, and community members to attend.

Last Day of School: Due to the snow day earlier this year our last day of school will be a half day on June 18. June 17 will now be a full day of school.

Tax Statement: If you pay property taxes in Island County, you may have received a letter from the Island County Assessor's Office regarding a discrepancy in school taxes collected in 2022 and 2024. This resulted in a one-time reduction in your recent tax statement.

We want to clarify that this adjustment pertains to the State Schools Levy Part 1 tax and not our local enrichment levy tax (School District 201 Enrichment), which was recently approved by voters. The state schools tax is collected at the state level and is not controlled locally, whereas our school levy is determined by our community and directly supports our students, staff, and programs. If you have questions about your tax statement, please contact the Island County Assessor’s Office directly. As always, we appreciate our community’s continued support of our schools.

Congratulations to our amazing artists who participated in the NWESD 189 Regional High School Art Show! Thank you to our teachers Kayla Spruce and Kit Christopherson for fostering the creativity and skills with these talented students through our Oak Harbor High School arts program and for all of the art teachers and families who encourage excellence in our young artists. North Whidbey Middle School ASB and Leadership students went to Anacortes Middle School for an AWSL Leadership conference with 6 other middle schools. Students worked with other schools to come up with ideas to help create positive school culture in their school.

It was Cupcake Wars at North Whidbey Middle School today! The annual event is coordinated by Family and Consumer Science teacher Brianna Thompson. Student chefs worked together on a cupcake recipe that they baked from scratch and decorated, and then presented to guest judges from the community, schools, and district office throughout the day.

Hand-in-Hand Early Learning Center celebrates Dr. Seuss' Birthday and Read Across America.

Olympic View Elementary third graders from Mrs. Hackler and Ms. Byer's classes read to Kindergarten students and celebrated with a themed spirit week.

Mrs. Rogers' Flight Simulation and Design class tested their model planes in the OHHS SUB. Students crafted the devices out of foam, wood, and a powered propeller attached to the front. The planes were flown around a pole to keep them in a controlled environment. The purpose of this class is to engage students in the engineering and design process: identify, research viable designs, prototype, test, revise, and fly again. If other students want to work on similar projects, they can join Flight Club in B118!

Mrs. Nuqui's class at Oak Harbor Elementary has been studying sound waves and how we can speak to each other through vibrations!
