6th Grade OHI Intramural Basketball

OHI Basketball Intramurals is a FREE, after-school, co-ed program designed to develop movement skills, health-related fitness, and personal and social responsibility all while participating with students within the same school.

Goals:

  • Participate in a safe and structured environment.
  • Set goals, make COMMITMENTS, strive for personal bests, and follow through with responsibilities.
  • Most importantly, enjoy the sport rather than the pressure to compete and win.

Important Information:

  • Participants will meet in the gym, where attendance will be taken.
  • Participants must wear gym-appropriate shoes and clothes. (NO sandals, short-shorts, etc).
  • Participants will have 5 minutes to change, in the bathroom by the cafeteria (if necessary).
  • Participants must be willing to practice basic warm-up and agility skills, conditioning and basketball skills, and learn the rules and fundamentals of basketball.
  • Participants must be willing to apply the skills learned to match play and tournament-style play.
  • Participants will be dismissed via “walker” or “parent pick up.” There is NO after-school program bussing at this time. 
  • Parent pick-up will be at the front of the school.
  • Participants are allowed to be picked up ONLY by the person listed on the Permission Form unless a parent note is provided.
  • It is important that you pick up your child promptly at 4:30 p.m. Late pick-ups will exclude your child from the program. 
  • ALL paperwork must be completed and turned into the office prior to participation.

Exclusion from the Program:

  • Three NO SHOWS. Participants will be excluded after 3 NO SHOWS unless accompanied by a teacher note (ex; after school tutorials), or a parent note (ex; absence from school).
  • Three unprepared. Participants will be excluded after 3 days when the student showed up to basketball without appropriate attire. This means they showed up without appropriate shoes or clothes and did not take practice seriously.
  • Three late arrivals. Late arrivals will be sent down to the front office to call home unless accompanied by a teacher's note.
  • Three late parent pick-ups. “Parent pick up” participants must be picked up promptly at 4:30 p.m, at the front of the school.
  • Three timed-sit-outs for misbehavior. Safety is a priority. Participants will be asked to sit out when he/she is not following the 3-R’s, Respectful, Responsible, and Ready.
  • 1 Practice Abandonment. Participants who roam around campus or leave campus and return after attendance has been taken will NOT be allowed to participate and will be sent down to the front office to call home, this is an automatic exclusion from the program.
